Six MHS Seniors Commit to D1 Schools; More Students to Announce College Commitments in Weeks to Come
Six Mamaroneck Tigers have committed to play sports at the Division I college level, making it official on National Signing Day, Nov. 10. We expect additional athletes to commit to Divisions I, II, and III schools in the coming weeks/months and look forward to acknowledging all of our collegiate-level athletes in March.
Students Across the District Pay Tribute to Veterans
Students at all four elementary schools spent time learning about Veteran's Day. Central School students make handmade Veteran's Day cards for staff member Mr. Bill to thank him for his service.
Hommocks Gr 6-8 students also learned in social studies classes about why we celebrate this day and then had the opportunity to write thank you cards to active duty military personnel. Here, Student Council members display cards that they sent to Fort Riley, KS, where a Hmx administrator's son was stationed before his deployment to Europe.
MHS students and staff participated in a ceremony that began outside the Vietnam display inside the high school and then moved out to Kemper Memorial Park, an important community memorial to the veterans of World War II.
Two Girl Scouts from the high school manned a mock WWII American Red Cross Clubmobile (in honor of Kay Cullen, a Kemper Park honoree and member of one of the crews that was killed when a bomb hit the hospital dormitory where she was staying.) The WWII Clubmobiles served doughnuts and coffee to the troops on the European front.
The Clubmobile's presence was aimed at highlighting the war effort by all segments of the American community.

Ruby Bridges Foundation Selects Murray as Pilot Participant School for Special Initiative
Murray Ave. School, having been selected as a Pilot Participant School, is collaborating with the Ruby Bridges Foundation in the quest to provide more national exposure to Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. On Nov. 17, students took part in a "community walk" with their teachers and peers through the surrounding Murray neighborhood. The walk represented their collective vision to create environments of kindness, respect, and allyship. In class, they also learned more about Ruby's story as the first African-American child to help desegregate schools in New Orleans and engaged in activities and reflective conversations.
Hommocks Students Using Editing Software to Digitally Program Instruments in EMusic Lab
Thanks to a Mamaroneck Schools Foundation grant, students in Mr. Franzé’s 8th Grade eMusic class have been learning how to use the music editing software Ableton Live to digitally program electronic drums. As emerging electronic music composers, students also are learning about programming and sampling other instruments.
MAS Holds Successful Winter Needs Collection; Still Time to Contribute to Social Workers' Holiday Drive
Mamaroneck Ave. School hosted a donation drive to assist families participating in the District's free/reduced meals program; families impacted by the flooding as a result of Hurricane Ida, or any other family in the Mamaroneck School District in need of additional support. Many thanks to the PTA, staff and community members for organizing and donating new and gently used items for families. Families were able to come pick out winter coats, gloves, scarves, hats, sweaters. boots, socks (for children and adults), pajamas/thermals, underwear, blankets and pillows. The PTA provided pastries and apple cider to families upon exiting the event.
